Looking at Angels in the Holiday Season: Good News, Community Events, Kitten and Gown Adoptions!

Holy Cow! There is SO much going on, and we need YOUR help! First the really good news! We were awarded a Grant by the Amy Woolington Memorial Fund through the Jewish Foundation of Los Angeles. That is thanks to Pam Weiss, who lost her daughter Amy in a sledding accident almost 20 years ago. She decided to set up a memorial foundation to do good works in memory of her daughter. And we were the top f the list of recipients!

Now, the good news! We are sponsoring an appreciation lunch for our Harbor Division Police Officers. This will take place on Saturday, Dec. 12 at the station. The food is being catered by Beacon House. We have asked Councilman Joe Buscaino to pay for the food. Wilmington Neighborhood Council is providing their canopies, tables and chairs plus $500 for expenses. Santa’s Sleigh, which traditionally drives the streets of San Pedro with Santa, will be making a special stop at Providence Hospital AND at the police station, where 300 bags of yummies will be given to the officers and support staff. We have carolers coming and there might be a special performance by a very special group- still nailing that down. The lunch will be done in two shifts- noon and 6 PM, for the two shifts of offices working that day. We need our help in gathering candy for the bags and helping to stuff them on Dec 5-6. I have asked the other neighborhood councils to help with setup and breakdown as well as providing drinks. The Police chief was so very happy to know this was happening- The officers have been very demoralized and this is a positive for them.

Your Board has also been busy – mainly Silvia has been busy- making scarves/shawls with pockets for the children on Hospice. These are EASY to sew, if you would like to make some at home and bring back when completed. We also have patterns to make the little Angel Wing ornaments from gown scraps- they are easy to create and will be put in our sale at the Lomita Kiwanis Craft Fair on Dec 6. We have signed up to have a booth for $25, and plan to have our wings, Angel Tree Toppers, totes and our Adopt-A-Gown display. If you would like to volunteer for a 2 hour shift that day, please let me know and I will schedule you! Setup is at 9 AM. We NEED YOUR HELP!

Our Annual Christmas Party is Sat, Dec 19. We will be outside on the parking lot with canopies, an inflatable movie screen to watch a Hallmark Christmas movie, there will be food and games. Time is 3:30-5:30. You know it’s always a crazy fun event! I need to know who is coming by Nov 28 or the event will be cancelled. You will be required to wear a mask unless eating.

We have baby kittens a the studio from our not-so-feral Mama cat. One is spoken for and the other three are almost ready to go to their forever homes. They are beautiful! If you would like one, please message me. They will be getting their shots in the next two weeks, then can go home. They are sweet and friendly and playful.

In January, we plan to begin our meetings again, socially distanced. I hope you will join us again. The sews are always such a positive time.

Happy Holidays, Angels!!!!!
